Calum Baird – Sundays In Berlin

It’s the second Sunday of the month, and I’m recovering from my day job Christmas party. Sunday also means that it’s time for the second review of this year’s Captainskydiver Advent Calendar!

Those who have followed Captainskydiver for a while will know that we’re big fans of Calum Baird, so when he approached us to do a review of Sundays In Berlin we jumped at the chance!

Sundays In Berlin is, like Calum’s other songs, thought-provoking and reflective. Calum’s songs always make you really listen and contemplate, and you always finish listening feeling somewhat richer in knowledge. Sundays In Berlin is no different. It lets you explore a global city, which has a long (and deep) history, whilst understanding that you are just one person in millions there. Almost like a self-guided tour around the city. This track, like “Some Call This Normal”, was written and recorded in collaboration with Calum’s friend and fellow musician Tobias Thiele.

Calum certainly has a way with words, and this track makes you ask questions, observe, and somehow make sense of the social and cultural aspects of the city, and their issues. It makes you understand a sense of self, in a world that is forever changing.

Sundays In Berlin is a masterpiece, and not to be missed.
