The first review of 2025 is here (albeit just over a month into the year, but we all hate January, and February just flew over). However, I can’t think of a better track to be the first of the year. Thanks to Pete from Ambicon Music for sending it over!
Blood Curse is the second track from trio FangSlinger, and it’s an absolute banger. I’m definitely getting those metal vibes, with a sprinkling of country (if the cowboy hats don’t give that away). It starts out with some nice fingerpicked guitar that 100% gives me Sons of Anarchy vibes. The vocals that come in match this perfectly – so far, I’m vibing with it.
The singer’s voice follows suit and reminds me of the rock music I used to listen to as a teenager in the mid-to-late noughties (yes, I’m that old), which makes it even better. Then suddenly, we’re thrown into loud guitars and even louder vocals, and I can feel my foot stomps getting heavier. The rest of the track is packed with amazing riffs, powerful vocals, and solid lyrics. It ends just as it started – back to that fingerpicking as it slowly fades out.
If you want to know what images are running through my brain whilst listening to this (and even if you don’t, you’re about to find out), it’s this: imagine a montage from a show like Sons of Anarchy – a big fight scene culminating in things being set on fire, with people walking away from the smouldering wreckage as the screen goes dark.
