A little something EXTRA special for your Christmas Eve – a track review. Gosh it’s been a while.
I’ve been a long time fan of Project Smok, and even got to see them at the end of November (supported by The Hop who featured on day 9 of this year’s Advent Calendar).
“Elilidh’s” is the 9th (and possibly my favourite) track of Project Smok’s second album “The Outset”, released this time last year. Since then it’s been a regular feature in my listening habits so it only seemed right that this track was the one for a review – who knows maybe I’ll write a review on a different track next year.
What I love about this track is firstly WHISTLES – love a good track with whistles (which basically means any Project Smok song). It starts off nice and slow, with gental whistles and a nice beat (thanks to Ewan Baird). Ali Levack’s whistle playing and breath control is simply fabulous. This combined with Pablo Lafuente’s excellent guitar playing makes for a great start to a track. BUT, there’s a twist. From the slow and steady rises something I can only describe as truly magical. The beat gets faster, the electronic bleding seamlessly with the trad, and you’re suddenly transported into a moment that makes you want to dance with joy. This then gently transitions back into the slow and steady, relaxing you as it fades out.
